Our Story

Kenyatta Maxwell

Born in Alachua County on April 4th and raised in Olustee Florida (O-Town). I’m a humble, outgoing young lady with a cheerful smile and a lot of heart. My passion is people and my faith lead my days.

Bride’s Story

Our story began in Jacksonville Florida in August of 2017 at a CVS parking lot on Baymeadows. I, (Kenyatta), was looking amazing, like I had just stepped out of Vogue magazine, or JET Beauty of the week. I was smelling good, and looking like money…(lol). Okay, at least that’s what I’d hoped for when I met the one, but it’s not entirely true. In reality, my garage door had just stopped working and I had been trying to fix it all day. This led me to make several stops, including one at CVS- one I will forever appreciate for the rest of my life. After speaking with him briefly, (because he was on his lunch break), I knew he was a man with deep insight and wisdom that could only be guided from Jehovah. The rest of the day, I kept thinking about him, (Christopher). We became good friends. As Fall approached, we became more and more acquainted. After having lunch together every Friday that summer, we both knew it was only a matter of time. He took me on an amazing trip, and the rest was history!

When I first saw Christopher

I felt so drawn to him. I knew in my heart that I had to see him again. I was both nervous and anxious, but he made me feel so comfortable. His demeanor was quiet at first, but that was only because he listens first before he speaks. I felt very blessed that our paths crossed, and I prayed to see him again.

Our First Date

Was amazing, even though I was ate up by mosquitoes. He was the perfect gentlemen – opened the door, checked on me, and made sure I was okay. He read my eyes, which gave me a sense of warmness. Our first date was at a beautiful park, where we exchanged flirtatious banter over those mosquitoes eating me alive. I recall our deep conversations which I could only describe as our “soul to soul”. The more we communicated, he helped me to understand life in all it’s different angles. As we continued to date, he helped me value who I am even more (Is that possible?). The way he sees me gives me courage and confidence to encourage me to be better. He sets examples for our family and pushes us to our full capability. He and I discussed our love of family, work, travel, design, and the rest is history! I give thanks to God and all the credit to Jehovah, as well as Christopher’s parents. His family is admirable and seeing how he values them made me love him more.

Most Memorable Experience in our Relationship

I’ve had so many wonderful experiences with Christopher, and they all mean so much to me. Introducing him to my family and meeting his was amazing. Our proposal was the most important, the most honorable, and the most memorable experience in our relationship. For my close family and friends who know my life and story, my life has not been perfect, and I worked extremely hard to accomplish what I have. Therefore, I’m a private person, and I do not trust people easily. He has provided additional light into my soul – without him I’m not whole. He’s my peach soda- CRUSH, to be exact :).

Our Proposal Story

Almost 2 years later, and I still get butterflies when he enters the room. Our proposal was amazing, and I was so surprised. He proposed to me 2800 feet above sea level in the mountains of Tennessee. I cried and had so many emotions run through my body. I already knew he was my superhero, but he took it to a new level. He told me to look at the view, as he stood behind me, and I did. When I turned around, he was on one knee with a beautiful smile on his face. I was sooooo happy. I was thinking about Ida Dixon (mom Ida – RIP), my family, and more. It was very surreal, because prior to the trip, I had jokingly discussed with my sister (Erica) how great it would be to spend the rest of my life with him. Christopher never showed a sign that he was going to propose, even though I had hoped for it greatly. As we continued our travel around Tennessee while creating more great memories, I enjoyed hearing him talk about his family and his passion. This feels like a fairy-tale guided by Christ, and I’m so blessed and happy. I can’t wait for this exciting new chapter to begin!

Team Blake!

“As a young man marries a young woman,
so will your Builder marry you;
as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride,
so will your God rejoice over you.”

Isaiah 62:5

Christopher Allan Blake

In Smithdale, MS, born and raised – on the playground is where I spent most of my days. Lol. Well, no, not really. I’m just a guy from a small town who’s trying his best to please God and achieve happiness.

Groom’s Story

I made a major step in achieving that happiness when I met Kenyatta. She gave you the cliff notes’ version of how we met, but she left out a few details. Lol. Of course, no great storyteller tells the whole story, so I guess I will leave out some details, as well.

Our first time seeing each other was indeed at CVS. I was on break at my job, and she was taking a break from working in her garage. We talked for so long, I almost got fired that day. However, just like any new acquaintances, we texted each other immediately after we met and critiqued our first encounter together. Lol. I was very excited, and I thought she was so beautiful. Who would have known that a drug store would bring two people together?

For a while, it was a little surreal that I had someone so amazing interested in me. Of course, I thought that I had deserved the best, as well, but who would have known that I would have found the best so soon?

So, ISo, I started to put my plan into motion. In January of 2018, I knew I wanted to propose to her, but I wanted it to be special. So, I created an itinerary for us for Valentine’s Day. (Click here for itinerary). One of the places on the itinerary was a jewerly store called Global Diamonds. When it was time for us to go there, I told her that I thought it would be fun to see what kind of taste in rings she had. When we got in, I told the associate that we would like to look at their engagement rings, just to browse around. My fiance went through a few of the rings, until she found one that she really liked. I, in a very smooth fashion, had the associate (Alexandra) get her ring size while trying on the ring. Afterwards, we gave the associate our gratitude, and we left to go to the next item on the itinerary.

Little did she know that I had returned back to the store, and placed a hold on the ring with Alexandra and told her my plans for proposing to Kenyatta in June. >
Of course, Kenyatta had no idea about all of this. As a matter of fact, when I first met her father, I asked for her hand in marriage.

Fast forward through a lot of details, due to time constraints, lol, it was now summer. We had already discussed taking a trip together, but we didn’t finalize a place yet. We searched through a lot of places online, but little did she know that I was planning on proposing on whichever vacation we picked – so, of course, time was of the essence. I coerced her into agreeing to go to the mountains. Lol. She actually was excited, because she have always wanted to go there. Now, it was time to get to work.

I researched cabins, to-do items, and other things for my proposal itinerary. We had just gotten “Team Blake” t-shirts made, so I definitely planned to take those with us.

I went and picked up the ring, booked all the reservations, and I was now ready to ask one of the biggest questions of a lifetime.

We spent a week in Gatlinburg, so I planned to pop the question on day 2, so we can spend the rest of the vacation as an engaged couple. I made sure that we wore those “Team Blake” shirts that morning, as well. We took a sky lift ride higher into the mountains to one of the lookouts. At the lookout, there was a band playing and other people taking on the sights. I was behind her near the edge gazing across the peaks. She turned around to tell me something and noticed me down on one knee with the ring she had picked out in my hand. All she could do was smile and laugh with tears in her eyes. “You came up this mountain as Ms. Maxwell, but I would love for you to come back down as Mrs. Blake.” She said yes, and everyone cheered. The band congratulated us, and it was the best feeling in the world. What’s even more amazing was on the way down from the sky lift, we saw other people, who was going up, congratulating us! Apparently, people had been texting and calling friends and family to tell them the news!

That night, we celebrated at dinner and started the beginning of the next chapter in our lives…
